Texas politics just threw conservatives another curveball. Rep. Tony Gonzales, once seen as a shoo-in for his border district, has now dropped his re-election bid after finally admitting to an affair with an aide. Not only is this an act of personal weakness, it’s another example of how DC’s moral rot infects both parties. Conservatives are tired of watching their so-called representatives get caught up in scandals when we need real fighters facing the invasion at our southern border.
Let’s be honest: Gonzales was in trouble even before this scandal blew up. Instead of standing firm on border security and conservative values, he danced around the issues or played nice with Democrats. It’s no wonder Republican voters gave him the boot toward a bruising runoff. The base is done with weak-kneed Republicans who cozy up to globalists and pretend to solve problems from air-conditioned offices.
The Democrats and their media buddies love to point at GOP stumbles, but where’s their outrage when their own get caught in far worse sleaze? Just look at the disasters they champion—open borders, endless spending, woke policies that destroy families—and the mainstream press eats it up. When it’s a Republican, they slobber over every detail. When it’s one of their own, they play dumb. That’s not journalism; that’s propaganda.
Now, the GOP field opens up for a real conservative challenger. This is a chance for Texas voters to send someone to DC who actually cares about their safety and sovereignty, not their personal pleasure. Brandon Herrera, Gonzales’s Republican opponent, represents that clean slate. Maybe with someone new, we’ll finally get a leader who puts America—and Texas—first, instead of stabbing voters in the back for selfish gain.
At the end of the day, if Republicans want to win, they better remember: values matter. If you can’t be loyal to your own family and staff, why should anyone trust you to protect America? Maybe the Democrats love this kind of chaos. But real conservatives know—if you can’t keep your own house in order, you don’t belong in Congress. Texas deserves better.
