Apparently, the mainstream media has a brand-new heartthrob, and his name is Gavin Newsom. During a recent interview, Katie Couric outdid herself—not with hard-hitting questions or tough facts, but with a starry-eyed display that would make any unbiased journalist cringe. Instead of pressing California’s far-left governor about his endless failures, Couric acted more like a lovesick fan than a professional.
Maybe Couric’s so-called “crush” is less about personal attraction and more about an open love affair with liberal incompetence. After all, Newsom is the poster child for progressive policies run amok. Homeless camps keep growing, crime is through the roof, and middle-class families are packing up and leaving California in droves. But none of that matters to Couric. Her idea of a tough question was more like an awkward middle school flirtation than serious journalism.
This is the world we live in: one where leftists prop each other up no matter how bad the results. Instead of holding leaders accountable for real-world disasters—like skyrocketing costs, failing schools, and cities in decline—they’d rather fawn over each other on camera and gush about manufactured charisma. It’s embarrassing, but sadly, not surprising.
Is this the best we can hope for from so-called independent media? Liberals keep crying about “threats to democracy,” but what about the threat that comes when journalists turn into cheerleaders for radical politicians? When the press refuses to do its job, Americans suffer. It’s no wonder trust in corporate news is at rock bottom. It’s all about feelings, not facts.
If this is what qualifies someone for higher office in the Democrat party—good hair, empty promises, and an adoring media—America’s in deeper trouble than we thought. Maybe Couric and Newsom can start their own fan club. The rest of us have real problems to fix.
