California gas prices skyrocket while politicians cash in drivers demand end to punishing tax

California drivers woke up to another slap in the face this week as gas prices shot up—again. It’s no secret who’s to blame. For years, liberal lawmakers have taxed drivers into the ground, pretending it’s all for our “own good” while siphoning more money for their bloated pet projects. Now, as working families stare down sky-high prices at the pump, Sacramento politicians act shocked and scramble for PR-friendly fixes.

Suddenly, a few in the state capitol have remembered that Californians still need to put gas in their cars to get to work. State Senator Tony Strickland is pushing a bill to suspend the state’s punishing gas tax for a whole year. Imagine that—politicians finally admitting their endless taxes are crushing ordinary people. But don’t hold your breath for the far-left leadership to do the right thing. They’d rather play climate warrior and pander to elitist, out-of-touch activists than help the workers who build California, drive California, and keep California running.

The state’s gas tax is nothing but a cash grab from Sacramento’s out-of-control spending machine. California already pays some of the highest gas prices in the country. Yet, every time the price ticks up, Democrats wring their hands and blame “global trends,” “Big Oil,” or any boogeyman but themselves. What a joke. Ordinary Americans aren’t fooled anymore. The truth is simple: when government piles on tax after tax, families suffer.

That’s the beauty of suspending the gas tax—it’s a direct, simple way to ease the burden. Instead, the left would rather funnel working-class dollars into their green pipe dreams and virtue-signaling schemes. Maybe if Governor Newsom spent a day paying to fill up his own tank, he’d understand why people are fed up with endless taxation. But the elites don’t have to worry. They cruise around in state-funded limos while California’s middle class scrapes by.

Enough is enough. It’s time for lawmakers to put California drivers first—not political donors, not eco-warriors, not globalist interests. If Sacramento can’t even bring itself to give families a one-year break at the pump, who exactly are these people working for? Maybe voters should start pumping the brakes—on the left’s reckless, anti-America, anti-driver agenda.
