NYC’s 15 mph speed trap will crush drivers and stuff city coffers while elites cruise carefree

New York City politicians are at it again. This time, Assembly member Zohran Mamdani wants to slap drivers with a new 15 mph speed limit across the city. They say it’s for “safety,” but anyone paying attention can see through this scam. This isn’t about protecting pedestrians or saving lives—it’s just another way to squeeze cash out of hardworking New Yorkers.

Let’s be honest. New York is already a nightmare for anyone brave enough to own a car. Parking tickets, tolls, street cameras—the city bleeds drivers dry at every turn. Now, with their latest “safe streets” plan, these so-called progressives are about to make it even harder to get around. Imagine crawling along at 15 mph while the city’s incompetent leadership looks for new ways to empty your wallet.

What makes it worse? The same liberals pushing this ridiculous rule are the ones who never set foot anywhere except their taxpayer-funded cars or private rideshares. They lecture normal people about emissions while jetting off to climate conferences and Red Carpet events. Do any of these elites ever suffer in bumper-to-bumper traffic or feed a meter with quarters? No. They’ve got their plush offices and green dreams while the rest of us pay the price.

And let’s not pretend this is about safety. If they cared about safety, they’d deal with violent crime or the filth on the subways. But that would mean standing up to their activist base, so instead they punish law-abiding drivers. The city already has cameras on every corner, collecting millions in fines. Now, they want even more, all while ignoring the real problems plaguing American families.

This speed limit scheme isn’t just soft-headed. It’s anti-car, anti-freedom, and anti-middle-class. Democrats don’t want you to drive, and if you try, they’ll tax, fine, and shame you until you give up. Anyone who thinks slashing speeds to a crawl is about safety needs to wake up—it’s about control and cash grabs, plain and simple. How much more will New Yorkers take before they slam the brakes on this nonsense?
