Liberals let tyrants crush freedom while Iranians rise up without help

For decades, the world has watched as brutal regimes crush their own people. In Iraq, the tyrant Saddam Hussein kept his boots on the necks of millions, while brave Iraqis and Kurds begged for help. America had every opportunity to kick him out after the first Gulf War. The U.S. had the military might right there, ready to go. Yet Washington’s so-called wise men, always worried about offending “global partners,” chose to pull back. They let the dictator live another day. Liberals call this restraint. Patriots call it a betrayal.

The so-called humanitarian crowd in D.C. loves to lecture about “democracy.” But when push comes to shove, they’re the first to fold. They didn’t want to look like America was taking sides. They worried about “stability” more than saving Kurdish women and children. Is this what leadership looks like? The liberal elite still pat themselves on the back for their “restraint,” while the graves in northern Iraq are full of broken promises.

Here’s what the left never understands: people fighting for freedom need more than empty speeches. They need real help. And that’s exactly what the Iranian people understand today. Now, the same fire that burned in the hearts of the Kurds is raging in Iran. Ordinary people, tired of religious tyranny and economic misery, are showing the world they don’t fear the mullahs anymore. Yet, what does the Biden crowd offer? Condemnations and hashtags—while the regime cracks down harder. It’s a rerun of liberal cowardice all over again.

But Iran isn’t Iraq, and today’s revolutionaries aren’t so easily crushed. There’s a different energy this time—a hunger for real change that’s not going to die out with fancy words from the State Department. The world can see it. America’s enemies can see it. Only our own leaders, obsessed with global approval and afraid of offending the United Nations, act blind. That’s the tragic pattern with left-wing foreign policy: all talk, no action, and a twisted sense of virtue that leaves actual freedom fighters stranded.

America should always stand with those willing to risk their lives for liberty. Not because it’s easy, not because it wins praise in Paris, but because it’s right. The Iranian people have what it takes to topple their oppressors—if only the so-called leaders in Washington would remember which side they’re on. Or do they secretly like it when freedom loses?
