Kathy Hochul Wants the Rich Back in New York—for Their Wallets, Not Their Well-Being
New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul has finally realized something the rest of us have known for years: rich people have better things to do than fund the never-ending liberal circus in Albany. After years of punishing, sky-high taxes driving out the very people who built New York’s economy, Hochul is out there begging for wealthy New Yorkers to return. She isn’t asking them to come home for the culture, or because the streets are safe, or because businesses are thriving. No—she wants their money, plain and simple.
Instead of fixing the mess Democrats have made, Hochul wants the successful to pay for it—again. These are people who built lives and businesses, only to be forced out by politicians who treat them as piggy banks. The rich are moving to Florida and Texas, where government doesn’t suck every last dollar to pay for failed socialist experiments. Who can blame them? Hochul isn’t inviting them back to celebrate their success. She just needs their money to keep funding “free” childcare for illegal immigrants and to prop up pointless woke offices in New York City.
It gets even more embarrassing. Hochul admits New York chased these taxpayers away, but now she wants New Yorkers living in low-tax states to play recruiter. She expects “patriotic millionaires” to round up their friends and drag them back into her fiscal trap. Does she even hear herself? This is desperation—pure and simple. The same people who called the rich greedy are literally on their hands and knees begging them to bail out a sinking ship.
Democrats are finally being forced to admit what everyone else has known forever: you can’t keep squeezing the same people for every dime and expect them to stick around. Once they’re gone, the tax base shrinks, businesses vanish, and services collapse. But instead of taking responsibility, Hochul and her fellow liberals whine about “remote work” and “competition” with other states. Maybe if they hadn’t turned New York into a tax-and-spend madhouse, they wouldn’t be in this mess.
Meanwhile, everyday New Yorkers are left to deal with soaring crime and wild new rules—like proposals to make the city crawl along at 15 miles an hour—while thugs get slaps on the wrist for violent attacks. The truth? New York was once the pride of America. Now, after years of Democrat rule, it’s just another example of liberal arrogance and failure. If decades of looting the productive class hasn’t worked, what makes Hochul think one more shakedown will save New York now?
