California Democrats just don’t get it. Every time they prop up the so-called “living wage,” they promise struggling workers that prosperity is right around the corner. They slap a new wage law on the books, throw a self-congratulatory party, and call it historic. But the reality is always the same: businesses buckle, jobs disappear, and the very people liberals claim to help end up worse off.
This time, the left-wing circus is playing out in Los Angeles. The city hiked the minimum wage for hotel workers to $22.50 an hour, with plans to hit a jaw-dropping $30 by 2028. What happened next? Over 600 hotel workers got shown the door. Not because of an economic crisis, not because of a pandemic, but because of grandstanding politicians hell-bent on looking “progressive.” While union leaders pat themselves on the back, hundreds of families get a pink slip and a one-way ticket to unemployment lines. That’s the “victory” Democrats are selling.
Of course, these wage hikes aren’t just crushing jobs—they’re punching every consumer in the wallet, too. Hotel owners, especially smaller ones, can’t keep up with these ridiculous labor costs. So what do they do? Raise room rates and slash services. Visitors end up paying more for less, and average folks get priced out of their own city. Meanwhile, wealthy elites and their union pals carry on as if everything’s fine.
But it gets even better: To avoid going under, hotels are now spending big on automation. Instead of hiring entry-level workers, they’re setting up robot concierges and self-check-in kiosks. The technology looks “futuristic,” but it’s just another way to put hardworking people out of a job. All thanks to clueless liberals who think basic math doesn’t matter. Guess what—the real minimum wage is zero when companies can’t afford to employ anyone.
And here’s the best part: Los Angeles is about to host the Summer Olympics in 2028. The city can barely keep hotels staffed now. Imagine the chaos when visitors from every nation descend and there’s no one left to clean the rooms or run the front desk. Leave it to Democrats to create a world-class disaster right before the world’s eyes. The question isn’t whether this will continue. The question is: Is there anyone left in California’s ruling party who knows what a paycheck even looks like?
