Trump Stuns Washington by Saving ICE While Republicans Crumble

Once again, President Trump has done what weak-kneed Republicans seem terrified to do: stand up for America and say no to a surrender. Senator John Thune tried to play ball with the Democrats, floating a plan to fund the Department of Homeland Security while tossing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the bus. Trump shot it down, and thank goodness he did.

Let’s not sugarcoat it. Proposals like Thune’s are exactly how conservatives get sucker-punched in Washington, D.C. The left’s dream has always been to gut ICE and open the floodgates at the border. Thune’s plan would have handed them a massive win, neatly wrapped with a bow by the very people who are supposed to protect us.

Democrats claim they care about “security,” but every chance they get, they fight to defund the agencies tasked with enforcing our laws. ICE is on the front lines, taking on drug traffickers, criminal gangs, and human smugglers. Cutting it out of the DHS budget is a gift to every criminal who wants to sneak across our border. That’s not just bad policy—it’s downright reckless.

What exactly was Thune thinking? Capitol Hill is swarming with globalists ready to sell out middle America for cheap political points. When faced with pressure, too many Republican “leaders” fold like a house of cards. If Trump had caved, we’d see a tidal wave of illegal aliens pouring in while liberals pat themselves on the back for “compromise.” There’s nothing moderate about putting American families last.

Trump’s refusal to play these political games is the backbone we need right now. America is tired of fake fixes and phony deals that put law-abiding citizens in harm’s way. If keeping ICE funded and our borders secure offends the sensibilities of political elites, maybe it’s time they remember who put them in office. Why should Americans keep footing the bill for liberal schemes that make our country weaker and more dangerous?
