Europe lectures America on fairness but hides while US defends their oil lifeline from Iran

America’s supposed “allies” in Europe love to scold us about international law and playing fair on the world stage. But when it comes to standing up to real villains, like the Iranian regime that’s threatening to choke off the world’s oil supply in the Strait of Hormuz, those same moral crusaders shrink away and do exactly nothing. Instead of showing backbone, they hide behind empty calls for negotiation—while expecting the United States to clean up their mess once again.

Let’s be clear: the United States hardly depends on the Strait of Hormuz for its energy. America gets almost none of its oil and gas from this route, thanks to years of energy independence and smart policy. Yet Europe and Asia? They’re hooked. Their economies would crumble if Iran tightened its grip even a little. That’s not America’s problem, that’s theirs—and yet, somehow, Washington is always the one footing the bill and risking American lives to protect their free ride.

Meanwhile, Europe throws tantrums over “international law,” but turns a blind eye to Iran’s open acts of terror on the world’s shipping lanes. Sinking merchant ships, threatening global trade—these aren’t complicated international disputes. This is the kind of naked aggression the Nazis tried in the Atlantic, and the world didn’t waffle then. What’s changed, except the courage (or lack of it) inside Europe’s halls of power?

It’s rich: the same European governments that refuse to let U.S. planes fly through their airspace now whine and wring their hands while Iran strong-arms global trade. They want Uncle Sam on call, but won’t lift a finger themselves. Cry “sovereignty” and “law” when it comes to handcuffing America, but cower or look away when Islamist tyrants break every rule in the book.

President Trump, to his credit, isn’t playing by their old, failing playbook. He’s made friends with tough, reliable partners—countries that actually work for peace and security, not just talk about it. While Europe dithers and pleads for “dialogue,” American leadership is doing the job the international order pretends to care about. Funny how the world expects the United States to step in whenever it suits their wallet, but throws stones at us the rest of the time.

Maybe it’s time American leaders asked the real question: why should our children defend countries that won’t even defend themselves? Why does Europe get a free pass while American taxpayers pick up the check time after time? At what point does enough become enough?
