If there’s one thing that leaves liberals shaking in their Birkenstocks, it’s when real leadership stands up to their sanctuary city circus. This week, Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin delivered a reality check that’s long overdue. He’s pushing a bold idea: why should blue cities that refuse to enforce American law get the privilege of hosting international flights? If these so-called sanctuary cities want to thumb their noses at federal immigration enforcement, it’s time they face the consequences. No more Customs and Border Patrol at their airports. No more international travel. You want open borders and lawlessness? Fine. But don’t expect America to be the doormat for your reckless games.
Let’s not pretend this isn’t going to hit the left right where it hurts. Shutting down international flights at major airport hubs in places like Los Angeles and New York would be a taste of their own medicine. These cities love to brag about being “welcoming” and “inclusive,” all while trashing the rule of law and endangering their own citizens. But when it comes to losing billions in travel, business, and tourism—well, suddenly the radical left won’t look so tough. Maybe then, Democrats will realize that they can’t have it both ways.
Of course, instead of working with the Trump administration for real solutions, Democrats just keep doubling down on insanity. Right now, they’re refusing to fund the Department of Homeland Security at all—unless, get this, the entire deportation system is basically scrapped. They want illegal immigrants shielded from deportation, and ICE handcuffed at polling places so their precious “undocumented voters” don’t get upset. The party of open borders doesn’t even try to hide it anymore. They’re more worried about protecting foreign lawbreakers than helping American citizens who play by the rules.
Meanwhile, the left’s shutdown antics already left airports in chaos, with TSA workers bailing because their paychecks dried up. President Trump had to step in and send ICE to cover security while finding every possible way to pay federal workers so ordinary Americans wouldn’t suffer. But paychecks don’t matter to limousine liberals who can just charter a private jet whenever they want. For the average American, though, this is life-and-death stuff.
The bottom line? Mullin’s proposal is exactly the kind of tough love Americans deserve. Sanctuary cities don’t get to pick and choose which laws they follow—and they definitely don’t get a free ride at the taxpayers’ expense. If blue city mayors want to act like their own countries, let them pay the price. Maybe losing international flights is what it takes to finally wake up these liberal elites. Are Democrats willing to destroy America’s security just to protect illegal immigrants? Or will they finally remember which country they’re supposed to serve?
