Cuban Dictator Clings to Power While Liberals Stay Silent on Suffering

Miguel Díaz-Canel just made it clear to the world: he’s not leaving his seat at the top of Cuba’s crumbling dictatorship. This so-called “president” is clinging to power with an iron grip, even as his people face daily misery thanks to decades of failed communist policies—and let’s not forget, the same kinds of leftist fantasies the radical wing of the Democratic Party drools over.

This is the face of socialism liberals never want you to see. They’re happy to parade out platitudes about “equity” and “reform” from Capitol Hill, but when a real-life communist strongman refuses to budge—even as food lines grow longer and political prisoners rot in jail—they go silent or make excuses. Where are the Hollywood elites demanding “democracy” in Havana? Too busy sipping their lattes and criticizing America while ignoring the actual suffering of Cubans under their favorite ideology.

Before anyone starts pretending Díaz-Canel is a leader to admire, it’s important to remember: the only elections in Cuba are a sham. He is nothing more than the frontman for an old boys’ club that stomps on dissent and silences any glimmer of freedom. The Cuban people don’t get to vote their leader out or hold their government accountable like we do here. They just get empty promises and more misery, while Díaz-Canel digs in his heels.

Of course, the globalist crowd loves to look the other way. They want open borders and “understanding” with regimes like Cuba’s, as if tyranny is just a cultural difference we should all accept. President Biden and his friends seem more interested in appeasing dictators and bowing to foreign interests than actually standing up for American values or for the rights of oppressed people everywhere.

Let’s stop pretending that socialism is some misunderstood idea that just needs a second chance. Díaz-Canel’s Cuba is what socialism really looks like: one man hoarding power, silencing opposition, and refusing to step down while his country collapses. Maybe it’s time liberals stopped defending dictators and started defending freedom—if they even remember what that word means.
