Once again, New York City’s progressive politicians are at it—launching an all-out war on common sense. The latest target? Hard-working package-delivery contractors. Councilwoman Tiffany Cabán wants to slap city controls on these companies with her new bill, Intro 518. She’s pretending this is about worker “protection.” But anyone who’s paying attention can see that the real effect is a massive, unnecessary price hike for everyday New Yorkers who already have enough trouble making ends meet.
These liberal “do-gooders” act like they’re standing up for the little guy. What they’re really doing is making life harder for everyone outside their precious activist bubble. Cabán’s plan could pile an extra $664 every year onto the bills of ordinary New Yorkers. That’s hundreds of dollars sucked right out of families’ pockets for groceries, kids’ shoes, and rent—just to satisfy the whims of a city council completely detached from reality.
Cabán and her cronies don’t actually care about working families. They care about virtue-signaling, chalking up another win for their anti-business agenda. Instead of celebrating how delivery contractors help people survive in one of the world’s busiest cities, they want to drag us all back to a time when only the rich could afford such convenience. It’s the same tired story: liberal politicians promise progress, but all we get is bureaucracy, bloated bills, and fewer choices.
This is classic left-wing hypocrisy. Progressives pretend to champion the poor, but their reckless bills punish the very people they claim to protect. Small businesses will suffer. Working-class folks will have to pay more for basic needs. Meanwhile, the rich elite who push these schemes never feel the pinch. They’re insulated from reality by their own wealth or public paychecks.
Why should New Yorkers be forced to pay more just to satisfy a bunch of progressive ideologues? The last thing our city needs is another round of government overreach driven by anti-business, anti-freedom, globalist ideas. Do these socialists ever stop to wonder who actually pays the price? Or is making life more expensive for regular Americans exactly what they want?
