California is at it again. The so-called progressive leaders in Sacramento are working overtime to shred the First Amendment and put government cronies above the law. There’s now a bill working its way through the California Legislature that would give taxpayer-funded groups the right to censor the press by forcing people to erase videos they took on public property. That means if you catch a shady official or government worker breaking the rules on camera, they could demand you delete the evidence. If you refuse, you could become the criminal. Welcome to the upside-down world of liberal California.
This move is nothing but a blatant attack on free journalism — all dressed up as “protection.” Protection from what, exactly? The truth? Taxpayers shell out billions to fund government organizations every year. When those same groups start hiding behind weak excuses to block public scrutiny, it reeks of desperation. The left’s real game is obvious: cover up fraud, shut up critics, and smother anyone who dares to expose their waste and corruption.
Let’s be honest. If California bureaucrats were so proud of their work, they wouldn’t be scrambling to erase public records. They’re not standing up for safety, privacy, or security — not when these “protections” conveniently show up just as more videos catch government workers abusing trust. If you think this is about anything other than crushing dissent and hiding incompetence, you haven’t been paying attention to the way Democrats run things.
Does anyone actually believe the left cares about the little guy’s rights? Not a chance. These politicians scream about protecting democracy while they silence journalists and whistleblowers. All this bill does is hand even more power to corrupt officials, let fraud slide under the radar, and cripple the few watchdogs who still dare to expose the truth. It’s not “progressive” to hide government failures. It’s cowardly.
California used to be the home of free speech and bold ideas. Now, it’s becoming a stronghold for soft tyranny draped in a woke disguise. When your government goes this far to shield itself from public view, you have to ask: what are they so afraid of? Maybe they know the only thing more dangerous than a camera in the hands of a citizen is the truth finally coming out.
