Chicago schools ditch class for leftist protests while academics suffer and parents fume

Chicago’s so-called public schools just can’t help themselves. Even when parents make it clear that school days exist for learning math and reading, not waving protest signs, the district bends over backwards for left-wing activism. The latest stunt: Chicago Public Schools is letting students march out for May Day protests—right in the middle of the school day.

Once again, the radical Chicago Teachers Union throws a tantrum, and the district comes running to hand out political freebies. They want kids out of class, shouting slogans about so-called “workers’ rights” and pushing their globalist agenda. Schools are supposed to be places of education, not recruitment centers for socialism. Yet here we are, with the doors wide open for leftist demonstrations. Sure, students can technically attend school that day—but the message is loud and clear: activism comes before academics.

This isn’t just about a protest. It’s about the left’s obsession with turning every public institution into a puppet for their causes. First they used COVID as an excuse to keep kids out of classrooms. Now they’re openly encouraging walkouts. Is it any wonder parents are losing faith in America’s education system? Who can trust bureaucrats more focused on politics than teaching the basics?

Chicago politicians wag their fingers about “equity” and “justice,” but their priorities are obvious. If this was a pro-life rally or an event honoring police, would the district let kids leave class? Not a chance. The double standard is as glaring as the city’s failing test scores—and the left doesn’t even care.

While Chicago’s crime gets worse and classrooms flop, CPS and its union pals would rather hand out permission slips for anti-American activism. The left pretends this is about “freedom,” but all they want is to radicalize the next generation on the taxpayer dime. Parents, wake up. Isn’t it about time schools got back to real education instead of protest parades?
