LA to Stuck Taxpayers Pay Up When Thieves Steal Streetlights Thanks to Failed Crime Policies

Everyone knows Los Angeles has a crime problem. But leave it to liberal politicians to find a way to make law-abiding citizens pay for their own victimization. The city is drowning in copper wire theft. Gangs of criminals, undeterred by soft-on-crime policies, rip city streetlights to shreds for scrap metal money. You would think city leaders would finally get tough on these thieves. Instead, LA’s answer is to blame the very people who dutifully pay their taxes: the property owners.

Instead of stopping the criminals ruining their neighborhoods, LA City Hall is treating honest folks like human ATM machines. If your block is pitch black at night because thieves gutted the wiring, guess who the city wants to saddle with repair bills? The homeowner, not the crook! The people who already pay sky-high taxes for basic services now get handed an extra punch to the wallet, all because Democrat leaders can’t keep the lights on.

Only in a far-left fantasy world does this backwards logic pass for policy. City government happily hands out freebies and sanctuary to lawbreakers, but can’t be bothered to enforce the law when it actually counts. These bureaucrats would rather let neighborhoods sink into darkness than admit their soft-on-crime agenda has failed. Residents end up footing the bill—again—for the city’s cowardice.

It is pure hypocrisy. City hall behaves as if there’s an endless pot of cash just waiting in the pockets of working families. If “leadership” means blaming victims to protect criminals, maybe taxpayers need to ask what they’re actually paying for. Globalist elites sit in their ivory towers behind gated walls, while regular Americans wonder if they need a flashlight just to walk their own streets.

This is what happens when leadership is more worried about virtue signaling than real-life safety. Why should any homeowner pay for the city’s disgraceful failures? Maybe someone should ask the mayor if she pays extra when her own streetlights go out—or does she just let the rest of us fumble in the dark?
