Los Angeles politicians are cooking up another scheme to squeeze hard-working families. This time, it’s a steep new tax—all in the name of fixing streetlights. That’s right, the same basic city service people used to get for their tax dollars is now being dangled over residents’ heads like a ransom note.
LA’s city council barely even hesitated before voting to push this levy onto the ballot. Thirteen out of fourteen politicians had no shame in tossing this burden onto taxpayers. The mayor, Karen Bass, was right there cheering along. This is a perfect example of how out of touch the city’s ruling class has become. They seem more interested in raiding wallets than actually serving the people.
The truth is, LA already brings in billions from taxpayers every year. Yet the basics keep falling apart. Instead of cutting waste and fixing their bloated, broken system, the left-wing city elites find it easier to ask citizens to cough up more cash. They act shocked when people demand to know where all the money goes. Why is it always the average Angeleno paying for government mistakes?
Meanwhile, crime spirals, homelessness explodes, and the city’s roads crumble. But the city council’s answer is always the same: make law-abiding citizens dig even deeper. Maybe if these self-serving bureaucrats spent less time cooking up new taxes, and more time doing their actual jobs, there wouldn’t be busted streetlights in the first place.
What happened to personal responsibility and making government work for the people? The LA elite think they can just slap another levy on the ballot and no one will notice the incompetence and greed. Maybe it’s time voters flip the switch on these out-of-touch liberals. Enough is enough—will anyone on the left ever learn, or are they happy leaving LA in the dark?
