UN Puts Iran in Charge of Nuclear Safety as America Sounds the Alarm

Once again, the United Nations has proved it’s a playground for the world’s worst regimes. In a move that would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous, Iran—a country that can’t stop threatening its neighbors—has been given a vice president seat at a conference meant to stop countries from getting nuclear weapons. You can’t make this stuff up. The world’s number one sponsor of terror, a regime caught lying, cheating, and hiding its nuclear ambitions, is now helping steer a meeting on nuclear safety.

Here’s the excuse from the global elites: Don’t worry, they say, it’s just a procedural job. Iran won’t get to make major decisions or have veto power. That’s cold comfort, considering Iran’s track record of ignoring international rules and playing the victim every chance it gets. Putting Iran anywhere near the table, in any position, only gives its brutal regime legitimacy it doesn’t deserve.

While the U.S. and a handful of allies stood up and protested, most of the globalist crowd stood by and shrugged. This is what happens when left-wing bureaucrats and weak-kneed leaders let international bodies get hijacked by dictators. American voters need to wake up: This is the “world order” Democrats praise, where Iran gets a pat on the back for years of deception, and the real defenders of peace are treated like the problem.

The Iranian representative even had the gall to throw blame back at the United States, trying to rewrite history and paint America as the aggressor. Iran’s spokesmen love pointing fingers and playing the victim, ignoring the fact their own government crushes dissent at home and threatens Israel at every turn. Somehow, the so-called peacemakers at the U.N. keep buying it.

Let’s not kid ourselves. Giving Iran any seat at this table signals to bad actors everywhere that rules don’t matter. If you break enough of them, you’ll get promoted in the halls of global power. This is exactly why America needs bold leadership—someone who calls out evil for what it is and stops caving to international pressure. Maybe the U.N. should make North Korea the next head of the Human Rights Council. At this point, nothing would shock us.
