One liberal columnist is now proposing that first-time gun buyers should get a government subsidy if they pick a long gun over a handgun. That’s right—taxpayer dollars just to decide *which* legal gun you own. The left says handguns are the “real problem” because they’re used in most firearm-related violence and suicides. Supposedly, it would be better if Americans just grabbed a shotgun or rifle for home defense. The arrogance here is off the charts.
Let’s get real. Law-abiding citizens choose handguns because they’re easier to carry and conceal—especially for self-defense when they’re out and about. Nobody is strapping a shotgun across their back to take their kids to the park or walk through the grocery store. And even if they did, the hand-wringing liberals would clutch their pearls and call for even *more* restrictions. They despise seeing any sign of normal Americans exercising their rights.
What’s truly infuriating is that the left is obsessed with micromanaging gun ownership while refusing to admit the real issue: criminals—and evil people—don’t care what kind of laws or “harm reduction” policies you roll out. They will always find a way to get weapons. Instead of empowering honest citizens to defend themselves, liberals would rather keep everyone defenseless, relying on promises and pie-in-the-sky policies. Ask any woman facing a violent attacker if she’d rather have a handgun ready or wrestle with a bulky rifle—this debate isn’t even close for people who care about real safety.
It’s obvious why gun control keeps falling flat in this country. Americans know politicians aren’t interested in safety—they want control, plain and simple.
