Once again, the American justice system is bending over backwards for the criminals instead of protecting law-abiding citizens. Lawyers for the suspected shooter at the Washington Hilton are wasting no time in demanding that their client be taken off suicide watch. They’re running to the judge to get him out of a “safe cell” and away from 24-hour lockdown. Apparently, the rights of the accused matter more than the safety and security of our communities.
Where was this compassion when law-abiding Americans were being threatened by yet another lunatic with a gun? Liberal lawyers, with their endless concern for the “mental health” of accused criminals, seem to forget the real victims—the innocent people put in harm’s way. While the suspected gunman gets special treatment and an emergency hearing, the hardworking people of Washington are left wondering who’s actually being protected.
These leftist policies have turned our legal system upside down. The politicians and lawyers twist themselves in knots for the comfort of alleged shooters, but ignore broken communities and rising crime. Instead of fixing the real problems—soft-on-crime laws, open borders, and a complete lack of accountability—the focus is on making life easier for those accused of violence.
The hypocrisy is glaring. When it’s time to take guns away from law-abiding citizens, the Left cries for more restrictions. But when one of their own ends up accused, suddenly it’s all about their “well-being” and rights behind bars. If the tables were turned—if this were some conservative kid in trouble—does anyone believe liberal activists would be rushing to cut him a break?
America is tired of coddling criminals while ignoring victims. If a suspected gunman is deemed a danger, he belongs on suicide watch. He shouldn’t get special privileges because lawyers demand it. Why does the comfort of the accused matter more than the safety and peace of everyday Americans?
