DC turns lamp posts into EV chargers while crime surges and taxpayers foot the bill

Washington D.C. just can’t help itself. Instead of tackling real problems, liberal leaders are busy transforming city lamp posts into electric car charging stations. That’s right—taxpayers now get to watch their hard-earned dollars powering the latest eco-craze, all while crime and homelessness creep higher by the day.

The city’s deal with a company called Voltpost means they’ll bolt Level 2 chargers onto lamp posts and utility poles. These chargers dribble out about 20 to 30 miles of range per hour. Not exactly impressive. But of course, the green agenda always needs to look like progress even when it’s spinning tires in the mud.

City officials claim this is about “equity” and “access,” as if regular Americans are rushing out to buy overpriced electric vehicles. Meanwhile, folks struggling to afford food or pay rent aren’t exactly lining up for a Tesla. Who benefits most here? Not your average working-class D.C. family. It’s the wealthier urbanites and globalist elites who want you chained to batteries made with rare minerals from foreign lands.

Let’s be real: the liberal plan for EVs is not about saving the planet. It’s about virtue signaling and pleasing special interests. The climate warriors want us all plugged in and under watch, while ignoring the American energy workers who made this country great. And as usual, city leaders will call this “justice” even as neighborhood infrastructure crumbles and basic public safety takes a back seat.

Maybe the ruling class in D.C. should focus on keeping the lights on—literally and figuratively—instead of making our lamp posts into electric gas stations for their green fantasies. Or better yet, fix those potholes and keep the streets safe before handing over more neighborhood space for government experiments. Since when did catering to rich eco-warriors become the real business of city government?
