Is there anything the left won’t tax? Now Virginia’s governor, Abigail Spanberger, is floating the idea of taxing everyday life—think gym memberships, dog walking, even your favorite streaming services. Apparently, in today’s liberal wonderland, not even your Netflix account is safe from government greed.
Democrats claim they’re sticking up for the “little guy,” but there’s nothing pro-working-class about squeezing families for every last penny. They tell us these taxes are about “necessary revenue.” Really? Last time I checked, government coffers always find cash for pet projects and bloated bureaucracies—yet when citizens want to stay healthy or chill after a long day, suddenly Big Government shows up with its hand out.
Liberals love to punish success and ambition. You finally sign up for that gym membership to get in shape? Sorry, better cough up more cash for Spanberger’s bottomless tax pit. Take your dog for a peaceful walk or hire someone to help? That’ll cost you, too. Want to unwind with some TV? The government’s got your wallet. Meanwhile, they’ll pretend it’s all for the common good, but what they really want is to micromanage every aspect of your life.
This is the left’s playbook: Turn life’s simple pleasures into luxuries, and then tax them until only the elites can afford basic happiness. These politicians talk up globalist nonsense and pretend they want to “build back better”—all while hammering ordinary Americans trying to live their lives. They never admit that their endless taxes stifle personal responsibility, kill small businesses, and drain the spirit out of communities.
If they’re willing to tax fitness, relaxation, and family time, what’s next? A fresh air fee? Maybe a tax on laughter or friendships? What’s truly “necessary” here isn’t another tax—it’s leadership that respects working Americans and leaves some things sacred. Virginians—and Americans everywhere—ought to ask: If we don’t draw a line now, will the left ever stop raiding our wallets?
