Something is broken in America when a homegrown traitor, caught red-handed trying to join ISIS and kill U.S. soldiers, gets a measly eight years in prison. Just think about it—a North Carolina man plotted to ship himself off to join the world’s most brutal terrorist network, funnel them cash, and did everything he could to go from “keyboard Jihadist” to full-blown warrior for the caliphate. Yet, he’ll be back on the streets in less than a decade, free to start over. That’s what passes for “justice” these days?
Let’s not sugarcoat it: this wasn’t just an idiot spouting nonsense on Facebook. This man openly bragged online about his plans. He tried to raise money. He idolized terrorists. He shopped for tactical gear, bought plane tickets, and set out to fight against America itself. If the FBI hadn’t stopped him at the airport, who knows how many innocent lives could have been in danger? Yet he gets the same prison stint some nonviolent drug offenders face. Liberals are quick to scream about “domestic extremism” every time a conservative opens Twitter, but when it’s a radicalized ISIS recruit, suddenly the consequences look a whole lot softer.
This is the environment created by years of weak leadership and excuses for terrorists. Progressives bend over backwards to “understand” the motivations of jihadists. They apologize for “Islamophobia.” Meanwhile, enemies of our country are training, plotting, and sending out propaganda to recruit more traitors right here at home. Where’s the outcry? Where’s the “national conversation” about radical Islamic terror? Instead, we get lectures about pronouns and climate change while ISIS still wages war against Western civilization.
It’s no wonder Americans are losing faith in the system. The globalist elite would rather appease foreign interests and coddle criminals than stand up for our own national security. Our armed forces risk their lives every day. How dare our justice system treat this as a minor offense? If betraying your country to join ISIS doesn’t get you locked up for life, what message are we sending to our enemies—and to those who might follow in this man’s footsteps?
Americans deserve better. It’s time to stop giving terrorists slaps on the wrist and start making loyalty to this nation mean something again. How many more warnings do we need before leaders on the Left wake up—and actually start defending the country they’re supposed to serve?
