Nejlai Mitchell, the ringleader running tax shops across Lumberton and Hope Mills, didn’t just stumble onto a loophole. She built her business around targeting the pandemic’s paid sick and family leave credits, milking them for everything they were worth. And she didn’t act alone—seven employees were in on it, each one helping to create fake returns and bogus claims, all at the expense of the rest of us. This is the rotten fruit of Washington’s “big government knows best” attitude, feeding the fraudsters while honest citizens struggle to keep their businesses alive.
And let’s not kid ourselves. This isn’t just a North Carolina problem—this is what happens every single time the left demands more government giveaways, more “emergency” spending, and more unchecked power.
