Just when you thought the Democrat fantasy world couldn’t get any more detached from reality, here they go again—this time pushing a minimum wage hike so ridiculous it could only come from out-of-touch elites. Democrat Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut floated a whopping $25-an-hour minimum wage, and Illinois Representative Sean Casten says he’s thrilled by the idea. Of course he is—he’s part of the same liberal crowd that has never had to sign a paycheck, make a payroll, or worry about a small business struggling to survive.
Let’s not kid ourselves. These politicians spew empty promises while ignoring who really gets hurt. If these Democrats get their way with this $25-an-hour scheme, small businesses everywhere will be forced to shut their doors, lay off workers, or move jobs overseas. Which American diner or mom-and-pop shop can pay $25 an hour to fry burgers or sweep floors? It’s economic suicide dressed up as compassion.
Washington liberals like Casten and Murphy are desperate to pretend they care about working people, but their grand plans only line the pockets of global corporations who can absorb the costs, while Main Street America takes the hit. They wail about fairness and equity as they set working families up for disaster: higher prices, fewer jobs, and a massive jump in automation that will make entry-level work almost extinct.
And the hypocrisy is mind-blowing. These same Democrats who claim to fight for “the little guy” are pushing policies that will price teenagers, new arrivals, and those struggling to get ahead right out of the job market. Which is it—do they care about working people or just soundbites for their next campaign fundraiser?
The idea of a $25 minimum wage shows just how far the left has fallen from reality. It’s not about lifting people up—it’s about buying votes and looking virtuous on cable news. When hardworking Americans lose their jobs or their favorite local businesses vanish, will Democrats like Sean Casten and Chris Murphy feel any guilt? Or will they just blame “greedy corporations” as usual and move on to their next disastrous idea?
