Venezuela is once again in the headlines, and not for any good reason. This time, it’s because of devastation on a massive scale: nearly 1,500 lives lost, over 3,000 injured, and a jaw-dropping estimate of more than 50,000 missing after two monstrous earthquakes rocked the crumbling socialist nation. It’s a tragedy—but it’s also a blistering indictment of what happens when leftist incompetence gets paired with Mother Nature. The so-called “government” of Venezuela seems to be failing its people at every turn.
Socialism always promises utopia, but delivers only misery and chaos. For years, Venezuela’s rulers have starved their own citizens and driven one of the world’s richest oil nations into absolute ruin. Now, confronted with disaster, their system is exposed for what it is—a hollow shell, unable to protect, rescue, or even keep track of its own people. Over 50,000 souls are unaccounted for, lost in the rubble. Is this the great “progress” that progressive elites promise?
While the world rushes in with rescue teams, one has to ask: where was the preparation, the planning, the investment in infrastructure? It takes real leadership to handle a crisis. Instead, Venezuela’s socialist regime has been too busy silencing dissent and looting the country’s wealth to care about building earthquake-proof housing or basic emergency response. People shouldn’t be dying by the thousands just because an earthquake hits—but that’s the price when government puts its own power above the welfare of its citizens.
The international rescue missions arriving on the scene highlight yet another bitter truth: when socialist systems fail, it’s always capitalist countries—the very ones Venezuela’s rulers love to demonize—that swoop in to pick up the pieces. The hypocrisy is staggering. These globalist elites love to talk about “justice,” but where’s the justice for the missing? For the dead? For the families broken by the failure of the regime?
Venezuela’s disaster isn’t just a natural one—it’s a manmade catastrophe, dragged to the brink by greedy big-government bureaucrats who care more about clinging to power than saving lives. Americans should take note. How many warnings do we need before we stop listening to the left’s empty promises? How many more socialist disasters have to unfold before the world wakes up and rejects this failed ideology?
