The left-wing media just can’t let go of a manufactured scandal. This week, they dusted off their so-called “Signalgate” controversy—dragging back the same tired narrative about how a handful of Trump administration officials used the Signal messaging app. You’d think bureaucrats were plotting in secret bunkers, when all that happened was someone clicked the wrong button and a journalist wound up in a chat about national security. Oops. But now, as records roll in from government files, the media class is out with their pitchforks yet again.
Let’s be honest: this isn’t about rules or transparency. It never was. It’s about big-government liberals doing anything they can to tear down their political enemies. When their own team uses encrypted apps, they call it “digital safety” or “good cyber hygiene.” But if a conservative logs into the same platform on a government phone—which, by the way, is allowed—they call for congressional hearings and hint at treason. This is Washington’s oldest trick. The rules only matter if it’s someone the left dislikes.
The real outrage here isn’t some harmless chat about policy. The outrage is that our newsrooms are so eager to twist molehills into mountains—so rabid to attack the America First crowd that they’ll reanimate a closed case just to keep the outrage machine running. If a Democrat did this, you can bet the story would vanish in a day. When Hillary Clinton was smashing up BlackBerrys with a hammer, where was this breathless coverage? Nowhere to be found.
Every day, Americans use technology to stay safe and get work done—including government workers. Instead of admitting that sometimes mistakes happen and that these apps serve legitimate security purposes, the media is back to painting conservatives as digital outlaws. It’s hypocrisy at its most toxic. They invent danger where there is none, all to protect their cozy relationship with the globalist establishment running Washington.
Liberals might think they can distract voters by pretending a software update is a criminal conspiracy. But the American people are smart enough to see through their tired playbook. Maybe instead of crying wolf over harmless tech, the left should focus on the real crises they’re letting fester—at the border, in our neighborhoods, and right in the White House. Funny how for liberal elites, the only “rule-breaking” that really matters is when it comes from someone who disagrees with them.
