The modern West has lost the ability to tell virtue from weakness. Liberals and woke activists don’t judge right from wrong by facts anymore. Instead, they bow to anyone claiming to be the victim. The weaker side always gets a free pass, while anyone with real strength or the guts to defend themselves is painted as the villain. It’s cowardice dressed up as morality, and it’s leading Western civilization straight toward disaster.
After the barbaric October 7 attacks, the facts were undeniable: Hamas terrorists slaughtered Israeli families, kidnapped innocents, and celebrated their brutality for the cameras. But within hours, the liberal establishment jumped into action—not to call out evil, but to make excuses for it. Suddenly, Hamas was just “resisting occupation,” just another oppressed group lashing out in a cycle of violence. The left couldn’t rush fast enough to recast the killers as victims, and the real victims as somehow to blame. This is more than naïve. It’s moral rot.
This sickness isn’t limited to the Middle East. It infects everything the left touches. On college campuses, wearing a keffiyeh is a virtue signal; nobody cares if you know the history or the facts—as long as you look the part of the eternal underdog. Journalists trust death tolls handed out by terrorist regimes as if they’re gospel truth. Slogans and hashtags beat out evidence, because posturing gets you more sympathy, more clicks, and more power in the eyes of the virtue police.
This playbook didn’t happen by accident. Leftist ideology is built on this obsession with underdogs. Marxism made a religion out of “the oppressed,” and critical race theory, postcolonial studies, and intersectionality turned victimhood into a currency. It’s why criminals are coddled, police are demonized, illegal immigration is excused, and America itself gets blamed for every woe on the globe. The left doesn’t ask what someone did; they ask who is weaker, and hand out moral medals accordingly.
This cowardly shortcut rewards bad actors and punishes those willing to take responsibility. It creates a world where groups fake weakness to win sympathy, and the West, paralyzed by guilt, rewards them for it. Real morality—real justice—means asking hard questions. Did a group target civilians? Did it protect or harm children? Did it seek peace or glorify murderers? The left doesn’t want to ask, because the answers would destroy their entire worldview.
The truth is simple: Suffering is not righteousness. Weakness is not virtue. The only way forward for America and the West is to stop worshiping victimhood. It’s time to hold everyone, strong or weak, to the same standards. If the West can’t recover that moral compass, it will keep rewarding monsters and blaming the innocent. How much more evil will we excuse before we finally grow a backbone?
