The socialist dream in New York City has reached new lows, and now it’s getting hot—literally. While Zohran Mamdani and his cronies promised a utopia with free public transportation, government-run grocery stores, and endless handouts, guess what? He wants everyday New Yorkers to simmer in their own apartments with thermostats set to a stifling 78 degrees. This is collectivism at its worst: they’ll take control of your life, right down to what temperature you’re allowed to be.
People are sweltering while government buildings, of course, pretend to “do their part.” The ruling class hides behind climate “emergencies” and utopian language, but the real answer to their energy crisis was simple—let the market work. Instead, Mamdani and his crowd go the usual socialist route: rationing, restrictions, and asking people to sacrifice comfort, all in the name of saving a city they’re running into the ground. These are the same politicians who vowed their “new” socialism wouldn’t look like the old disasters from history. Turns out, it’s the exact same playbook—and it’s always about making you do less, take less, live with less.
It’s obvious this administration cares more about dogmatic climate politics than about New Yorkers actually living good lives. When things get tough—like a dangerous heat wave—their answer isn’t more supply, smarter energy solutions, or innovation. It’s always a call for you to unplug. Forget expanding domestic energy production, embracing technology, or letting people keep what they earn. That kind of freedom, that kind of prosperity, is off-limits when socialists are in charge.
What’s most stunning is the hypocrisy. The left will gladly tax the rich, lock down free enterprise, and take credit for every “free” service, but when it comes to keeping you cool in your own home, that’s a bridge too far. Never mind that blue states like New York refuse to learn from the success of red states, where lower energy costs come from letting the free market do its job. New Yorkers are being told to shiver in winter and sweat in summer, all so the government can protect its own power—both literal and political.
This is the dystopia of collectivism—a government so busy promising cradle-to-grave control over your life that they won’t let you choose your own comfort. How much longer are hardworking Americans supposed to put up with these failed socialist experiments? The warmth of collectivism isn’t just a slogan. In New York, it’s the new normal. And if the left gets its way, the only thing you’ll have less of than cool air is freedom.
