On this year’s Fourth of July, while America’s elites lecture us on our supposed national sins and burn flags in the streets of New York and San Francisco, something remarkable happened in a place liberals would never expect: the heart of Los Angeles’ Skid Row. Not the Hollywood hills or chic Westside neighborhoods, but a place our so-called “compassionate” leftists have left to rot. The very people who have suffered the most under Democrat-run cities stepped up to remind this country—and especially the America-bashers—what real patriotism looks like.
Videos from Independence Day showed residents of Skid Row, folks who have faced real hardship, standing proud and supporting our nation on its 250th birthday. Where is the outrage, the endless complaints, the trendy victimhood we see from college professors and privileged activists? Nowhere. Instead, these men and women spoke with gratitude for the freedoms and foundations America still provides—even as they live in conditions made worse by liberal incompetence. It’s crystal clear: Many who have the least are the first to appreciate the American dream.
Let’s be honest. The woke Left calls poverty “systemic” and claims America is rotten to the core. Meanwhile, they pour billions into foreign handouts, open borders, and globalist pet projects. But here, on Skid Row, the folks who know about hard times didn’t waste the Fourth blaming the country. They celebrated it, while left-wing politicians pander and profit off division. Who looks more patriotic: the Hollywood elite bashing the Stars and Stripes, or the average American on Skid Row still believing in this nation’s promise?
It’s no secret why this disconnect exists. The further you climb up the liberal social ladder, the more out-of-touch the anti-American attitude becomes. The mainstream media and their socialist buddies want us to think patriotism is dead, that no one with a brain loves this country anymore. But moments like this expose their big lie. It’s the regular citizens—those abandoned by Democrat leadership—who keep faith in America alive.
Every time a millionaire athlete kneels or a university crowd shouts down our history, remember those voices from Skid Row. Maybe if the Left spent less time hating this country and more time learning from its people, we’d all be better off. Here’s a question for the America-haters: If those with the least still believe in the country, what’s your excuse?
