Once again, hardworking taxpayers just got picked clean by a scammer—and it all happened under the nose of big government. In New Jersey, a grocery store owner managed to rip off more than $2.2 million from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. That’s federal welfare, folks. Your tax dollars, shoveled into the fire while Washington politicians wring their hands and pretend there’s nothing they could have done to stop it.
The so-called “safety net” program was supposed to help low-income families put food on the table. But instead, it’s become a magnet for fraud, abuse, and waste. Here’s a 67-year-old business owner letting his employees trade benefits for cash, inflating dollar amounts, and giving kickbacks to welfare recipients. For more than seven years, they turned one grocery store into an ATM, draining government funds dry while bureaucrats did nothing.
This isn’t some isolated event. The government’s own numbers show nearly a thousand arrests in SNAP-related fraud in just over a year. And the total fraud? Billions. That’s right—billions with a “B.” How many roads, how many jobs, how many real services could have been funded instead of lining the pockets of grifters and their inside men?
Let’s not kid ourselves. The liberals running this program love to throw money at the problem, but don’t lift a finger to fix the real leaks. When abuse like this gets exposed, all we hear is empty promises about more oversight. Meanwhile, the globalist left insists that expanding these programs is “compassion.” For the rest of us, it’s theft—with our paychecks as the target. Where was the Biden administration’s so-called “crackdown” when millions were walking out the door in East Orange?
A 27-month prison sentence and restitution sounds nice on paper. But what’s stopping the next hustler from turning SNAP into their own payday? As usual, left-wing incompetence and lack of accountability fuel a system where crooks get rich, government gets bigger, and families who play by the rules get stuck with the bill. Maybe it’s past time we ask: Why should Americans keep trusting big government to manage a welfare state it clearly can’t control?
