The Democrats have a real mess on their hands in Maine, and they can’t hide from it any longer. Graham Platner, once their big hope to take down Susan Collins, is now better known for the dark cloud of rape allegations hanging over his campaign. And what did his own team do as damage control? They sent out a tweet desperately trying to rewrite history, acting like they moved swiftly and nobly the moment they heard the news. Give me a break.
Platner’s top aide, Morris Katz, seems to think Americans are too dumb to notice the truth. The campaign didn’t jump to suspend Platner as soon as the ugly story broke. Instead, while they scrambled behind closed doors—calling up Platner’s ex-girlfriends, looking for some way to spin the entire disaster—they were caught flat-footed. Just days before, Katz and friends were still publicly denying everything. What changed? Simple: the story got out. The Democrat playbook didn’t work this time, because everyone could see the phony PR spin for what it was.
Meanwhile, the liberal media ran interference. Even the New York Times couldn’t bring itself to report the nastiest details. They chose to sanitize their coverage, hoping nobody would dig any deeper. This is what happens every time a Democrat gets caught in a scandal—silence, delay, then a watered-down version of the facts. If Graham Platner had an “R” next to his name, he’d be crucified 24/7 across every major outlet. Instead, the Democrats expected a half-hearted apology—if you can even call it that—to make the whole thing disappear.
Let’s not pretend these problems just started. The Platner campaign was a dumpster fire from the beginning, propped up by insiders and backed by elites who banked on Maine voters falling for their act. Now that the operation’s been exposed, all those high-minded strategists? They’re busy slow-walking the paperwork, playing for time as they scramble to cover their backsides. Do they really think Americans are buying it?
So here’s the question: If the Democrats can’t even keep their own house in order, why should anyone trust them with anything else? The Platner fiasco is what happens when arrogance meets incompetence—and it’s proof that the so-called “party of the people” is nothing but a self-serving machine. Maine deserves better, and so does America.
