There’s a new low in America’s biggest liberal city, and this time it comes straight from the mayor’s own office. A top official working with New York City’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani tried to go behind America’s back by arranging a cozy meeting with Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations. That’s right—Iran, a country led by a brutal, anti-American regime that funds terrorism around the world. This wasn’t some random staffer. Ana María Archila, a commissioner in Mamdani’s team, was the one making moves, acting like international diplomacy belongs to woke city officials instead of the federal government.
Let’s not sugarcoat what’s going on here. The left wants us to believe they care about democracy and the rule of law. Yet now, while Americans struggle to pay bills and the world grows dangerous, Democrat leaders are making backroom deals with the world’s biggest troublemakers. In what universe should a city commissioner even think about cutting deals or seeking friendship with a regime that chants “Death to America”? Where are their priorities? Is pandering to America’s enemies the new normal for progressive “leadership”?
Even worse, this meeting was only stopped because the U.S. State Department stepped in. If Washington had looked the other way, Mamdani’s team would have just gone ahead and met with the Iranian regime. This is the type of reckless behavior we can expect from career leftists who put globalism first, right in the heart of New York City. And liberals actually wonder why voters are fed up with them putting America last!
Look, this isn’t just a slip-up. It’s a symptom of how far the left has fallen. When Democratic leaders signal to the world that America is weak, that anyone can walk through our backdoor or our front door without consequences, foreign regimes take notice. Instead of standing up for freedom and the safety of the American people, these so-called leaders chase their own dangerous political fantasies—no matter the cost to national security.
Let’s be real. If you’re a public official and you’re even thinking about meeting with Iran’s top henchmen, maybe you’re working in the wrong country. The only thing more pathetic than Mamdani’s team trying to play diplomat with a terror state is liberals pretending this is no big deal. What’s next, coffee with North Korea? America deserves better.
