At a time when families are struggling to pay bills, Michigan State University has decided to throw nearly a million dollars at five so-called “DEI” staffers. That’s right—almost $900,000 to bankroll a few activists pushing the left’s favorite buzzwords: diversity, equity, and inclusion. All while students face crushing debt and hardworking taxpayers get left to pick up the tab.
Let’s call this what it is: a slap in the face to American values and fiscal responsibility. These DEI positions aren’t about real education or helping students succeed based on merit. They’re about spreading a political agenda—a progressive fever dream where group identity matters more than hard work and achievement. Tax dollars are being wasted to fund cushy jobs for bureaucrats who do little more than tell everyone how “oppressed” they are.
You’d think, with all the talk from liberals about equity and opportunity, colleges like Michigan State would focus on real academic excellence. But no, instead they pour a fortune into a handful of staff whose entire role is making everything about race, gender, or whatever the latest woke cause happens to be. And get this—the federal government doesn’t even recognize these jobs anymore. So why keep throwing money at them, unless the goal is pure indoctrination?
The hypocrisy here is staggering. Campus leftists cry about oppressive systems and lack of resources, but have no problem setting aside almost a million bucks for special-interest employees. Meanwhile, classrooms go underfunded, and students go deeper into debt just for a shot at a decent education. Liberal elites get richer, students get poorer, and the rest of us get told to “check our privilege.”
Maybe it’s time for Michigan State—and every other university run by leftist ideologues—to cut the nonsense. Stop fleecing American families for the latest woke bandwagon. When will our so-called institutions of higher learning drop the politics and get back to what really matters: teaching, learning, and building the American dream? Or is that just too “problematic” for them these days?
