Back in 1976, America was bursting at the seams with patriotism. People wore red, white, and blue, not as some tired political statement, but because they loved this country. Schools decked out students in matching jerseys, TV commercials celebrated American spirit, and everywhere you turned, people felt proud to call themselves Americans. It wasn’t some stiff tradition for the history books—it was alive and real, and every kid in town could feel it. That was the year of the Bicentennial, when the country paused to remember how blessed we are to live in this extraordinary nation.
Fast forward to today, and just look at what the left has managed to do. Democrats and their activist buddies, poisoned by their Trump Derangement Syndrome and their endless lectures about America’s so-called “flaws,” have sucked the joy right out of celebrating our country. A staggering chunk of them openly admit they’re not even proud to be American anymore. Unbelievable. In fact, several Democrat-run states wouldn’t even participate in celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday on the National Mall. It’s as if loving your country has become some dirty secret among the elites, while the rest of us are left wondering how they got so detached.
Sure, America in 1976 wasn’t perfect. Nothing is. But back then, people cherished freedom—real freedom. Government was actually small, not some monstrosity sticking its fingers into every corner of daily life. Folks understood that America wasn’t just another country like all the others. This is the only nation in history built on the idea that our rights come from God, not from politicians or bureaucrats. The government was supposed to serve the people, not the other way around. That’s how freedom was guaranteed, not by the iron grip of a faceless state, but by empowering citizens with liberty few others have ever known.
History proves what happens when a nation puts faith in its people. America led the world in invention, prosperity, and strength. In just two centuries, Americans invented more, built more, and improved more lives than any empire or globalist cabal ever could dream of. From the steamboat to the moon landing, the personal computer to the smartphone, American opportunity changed the world. The United States had the highest share of global prosperity in history. This wasn’t by accident, and it sure wasn’t because of some top-down socialist scheme. This miracle happened because America trusted in the individual and refused to bow to centralized rule.
The real soul of America is opportunity. Here, anyone—regardless of background—can build a life defined by their own efforts and dreams. That’s what terrifies leftists and globalists, who want people dependent on government handouts and international panels. The left can complain, rewrite history, and try to tear down statues all they want, but they can’t change this simple fact: America is, and always will be, the land of opportunity. No amount of bureaucratic red tape or woke hand-wringing can erase that truth.
Maybe that’s why so many on the left seem desperate to dampen patriotism: they know deep down that the American spirit is stronger than any ideology they peddle. The Bicentennial was a time when Americans celebrated what makes this country special. Wouldn’t it be something if, just once, today’s so-called leaders showed that same pride instead of bowing to every critic, foreign or domestic? Or is unapologetic American greatness just too much for them to handle?
