NYC City Council hands themselves huge pay hike while working families get crushed

While New Yorkers bust their backs just trying to make ends meet, the City Council thinks it’s party time. These politicians just voted themselves an outrageous 18% pay hike, shooting their salaries up to a jaw-dropping $175,500 a year. That’s not just a raise — that’s a slap in the face to every hardworking taxpayer in the city.

Let’s get real. The average working New Yorker barely scrapes together $81,228 a year, if they’re lucky enough to find good work in this progressive-run mess. City Council members just locked in more than double that, all paid for by the very people struggling with sky-high rent, failing schools, and crime that never seems to go away. Liberals love to talk about “equity”—unless, of course, it’s their own bank accounts on the line.

What exactly are New Yorkers paying for? This Council hasn’t fixed the subway, hasn’t lowered crime, and hasn’t reversed the flood of illegal migrants crowding city shelters. But they sure know how to reward themselves for mediocrity. They’ll call it “public service,” but the only thing they’re serving is their own interests.

This isn’t about fair compensation. This is political theater—big-city politicians cashing in while pretending to care about “the people.” They wave their “progressive” banners just long enough to trick voters, then cut themselves fat checks and leave everyone else holding the bill. Working families have to budget every cent, but these so-called leaders act like the city treasury is their private piggy bank.

While small businesses shut their doors and parents worry about basic safety, politicians are too busy stuffing their own pockets to do anything meaningful. If this is what “progressive leadership” looks like, maybe it’s time New Yorkers ask themselves who’s really benefitting from all that blue-state “compassion.” At this rate, the only thing City Council is representing is pure greed.
