In the so-called “world’s largest Muslim democracy,” a simple kiss can turn into a public nightmare. A young couple in Indonesia’s Aceh province found this out the hard way after sharing a peck on TikTok. Thanks to strict Islamic law in that corner of the globe, their moment of affection didn’t just get a few angry comments online—it landed them in a Sharia court. Their crime? Daring to show affection in public, even though there was no harm done to anyone.
Most Americans can’t even imagine being beaten for a kiss. Yet this is what passes for “justice” under Sharia law in Aceh. Instead of being treated with decency, these young people faced punishment that is both medieval and barbaric. This isn’t just the law in some remote corner—it’s enforced by a government that claims to honor “tolerance” and “diversity.” The left keeps praising multiculturalism and turning a blind eye to these absurdities, so long as it fits their anti-Western narrative.
Liberals love to attack Christians for having moral standards. They rant about the “religious right” and make fun of traditional values here at home. Yet when it comes to Islam overseas, suddenly the champions of “human rights” and “compassion” fall completely silent. Where’s the outrage over real oppression? Americans are scolded for using the wrong pronoun, but in places like Aceh, people are literally whipped for a kiss. The hypocrisy is deafening.
This isn’t about some random event overseas. It’s a warning sign about the dangers of letting radical ideologies take over entire societies. The left may dream of “equity” and “open borders,” but importing cultures that reject our values comes at a cost. America was built on freedom, not fear. Our Constitution protects speech, faith, and the simple right to love whoever you want—without government goons barging in.
If this is the “heart and soul” of Islamic law, it doesn’t belong anywhere near American soil. Our so-called progressive elites should take a hard look at what happens when they defend the indefensible. And ask themselves: Would they rather live in a place where you’re beaten for a kiss or one where freedom still matters?
