It’s about time someone in Washington actually stood up for American values. While soft-bellied liberals clutch their pearls at the idea of patriotism, Rep. Brandon Gill from Texas just dropped a bombshell. He’s got the guts to file a bill that says if you want to become a naturalized citizen, you better know how to speak English. Imagine that—expecting new Americans to actually communicate with their fellow citizens. What a radical idea!
For years, leftists and globalists have worked overtime to water down what it means to be American. They push open borders, sanctuary cities, and “press 2 for Spanish.” They tell us that “diversity” means you don’t even need to speak the language of the country you live in. Meanwhile, this nation becomes more divided, with communities talking past each other—sometimes literally—because they don’t share the same language.
Rep. Gill clearly sees through this nonsense. The United States has always been a melting pot, but there’s one thing at the heart of that melting pot: English. It’s not just a language—it’s the glue that binds us together, from Plymouth Rock all the way to the moon landing. How in the world can someone take the oath of citizenship if they can’t even understand it?
Of course, the usual liberal suspects are already howling. They scream “racism,” “bigotry,” and whatever other tired word they use to defend their open-borders agenda. But at its core, insisting on the English language isn’t about hate—it’s about unity and loyalty. The left will bend over backward for “multiculturalism,” but when’s the last time any real American felt proud hearing our own country treat our national tongue like an afterthought?
If you want to call yourself an American, you should be able to speak the language. That’s just common sense—something in short supply in D.C. these days. If demanding English from new citizens is offensive to liberals, then maybe they’re the real ones out of touch with America. The question isn’t why Rep. Gill would introduce such a bill—the real question is, what took so long?
