China Tried to Gut British Steel and Elites Nearly Let Them Succeed

Britain just woke up to a harsh reality—globalism isn’t just bad politics, it’s a national security threat. The United Kingdom had to wrench back control of its last functioning blast furnace after watching a Chinese Communist Party-linked company try to shut it down. These are the same globalists and so-called experts who promised the West that giving away industry to foreign interests would somehow make us richer and safer. Now we’re watching as vital steelmaking, the backbone of any serious nation, almost slipped right into Beijing’s hands.

Let’s not kid ourselves. The Chinese regime doesn’t buy up things like British Steel because they want to play nice in the global sandbox. They buy assets, gut them, and leave countries like the UK—and yes, the United States too—dependent and weak. It’s reckless that politicians ever handed off the country’s steelworks to foreign control in the first place. All that talk of “free trade” sounds pretty hollow when the so-called partnership means letting Communist China control the tools that build your bridges, your ships, and your tanks.

This isn’t just about jobs, though thousands of hard-working Britons were staring down unemployment because of elite mismanagement. This is about sovereignty. If a country can’t make its own steel, it can’t defend itself, plain and simple. That used to be common sense. But progressive leaders insisted on outsourcing everything, prattling on about “efficiency” while enemies quietly bought up the very industries that keep us safe.

Liberals love to brag about being “global citizens,” but where did that get us? It got Britain’s steelworks under Beijing’s boot. And who stepped up? Not the international organizations, not the fancy summits—just the UK government, stepping in at the last minute to stop a foreign power from crippling its industry. It’s the sort of crisis born from years of leftist naivete, neglect, and virtue signaling.

How many more warnings do the West’s elites need? Maybe next time, they’ll remember that being a real nation means keeping control over what matters. Or maybe they’ll sell off the farm, the power plants, and every last ounce of backbone—so long as the globalists get their cut. Is this what “progress” looks like? Because it looks a lot like surrender.
