Los Angeles just can’t catch a break with its city leadership. Karen Bass, the current mayor, put herself in the spotlight again with an explanation for the city’s filthy homeless crisis that would be laughable if it weren’t so insulting. Instead of admitting that her far-left policies have turned LA into a dangerous mess, she’s out here defending the rising use of meth among people living on the streets. That’s right: according to Bass, using meth is actually a “safety” measure for the homeless. What kind of upside-down world are we living in?
It’s hard to keep track of the mental gymnastics these liberals go through to avoid fixing the actual problem—their own failed ideas. Rather than enforcing the law, providing real mental health help, or demanding results from the billions wasted on “homeless services,” Bass bends over backwards to make excuses for street drug use. She won’t admit the obvious: these policies reward criminal behavior and trap people in addiction. As usual, leftist elites tell us we should feel sorry for chaos rather than fix it.
Let’s not forget, this is the same mayor who at one point gushed over Fidel Castro, treating a communist dictator as some kind of hero. Why would anyone be shocked when she shrugs off meth use as just another misunderstood “safety precaution”? This soft spot for anti-American leaders and coddling of criminals is exactly why our cities spiral out of control. Leaders like Bass care more about appearing progressive to their globalist buddies than actually protecting American citizens.
While hard-working families worry about safety and businesses close up shop because LA streets are wild, Bass spends her time coming up with ridiculous excuses that would make any responsible adult roll their eyes. It’s all about feelings, not facts, with these people. Their priorities are so backwards, it’s no wonder California’s biggest cities look more like failed socialist experiments every year.
Maybe next time voters will go with someone who actually respects law and order—and knows the difference between compassion and complete surrender to lawlessness. Until then, the rest of America is left wondering: is there any liberal meltdown too absurd for LA’s mayor to defend?
