NYC Wants to Run Your Grocery Store and It Could Spell Disaster

The latest brainchild from New York City’s liberal leadership proves, once again, that common sense has all but vanished from City Hall. This time, Democrat Mayor Zohran Mamdani is floating an absurd idea: putting the government in charge of grocery stores. Yes, you read that right — the same folks who can’t fix potholes, keep the trains running, or maintain basic order now think they can magically bring cheap groceries to your table by running supermarkets.

Let’s not sugarcoat it. This tired scheme has been tried and failed wherever it’s been unleashed. Socialist experiments with government shops have only ever produced empty shelves and wasted taxpayer money. The private sector works hard, taking real risks to feed families and create jobs. Liberals want to bulldoze all that, handing power to limp bureaucrats instead. Why? Because it gives them more control — and they can’t resist telling everyone how to live, shop, and eat.

Liberals love to pretend they’re helping the little guy, but this so-called “public grocery store” is nothing but a thinly-veiled attack on hard-working business owners. If New Yorkers think food prices are high now, just wait until the city runs the entire game. Quality drops, shelves empty, and choice disappears. Want to know who really wins? Not the consumer. Not the small business. It’s the power-hungry politicians, growing their own influence while destroying what’s left of the American dream, one neighborhood store at a time.

Only out-of-touch liberals could look at the messes in places like Venezuela and think, “Yes, let’s copy that.” This isn’t bold. It’s boneheaded. Why hand over your dinner plate to big government? The question isn’t how much more control New York’s leaders should grab — it’s why anyone still trusts them with anything at all.
