Once in a blue moon, Los Angeles County gets it right. Nathan Hochman, the new District Attorney, has done more to restore law and order than any California politician in recent memory. After enduring years of George Gascón’s disastrous “justice reform” experiment—one that threw the gates wide open for criminals and trampled victims—Los Angeles is finally seeing an ounce of sanity in its justice system. Some on the right are getting squeamish over Hochman’s prosecution of an LAPD officer who broke the law by secretly recording his colleagues. They shouldn’t be.
Here’s the simple truth: If conservatives actually believe in the rule of law, then the law should apply to everyone—including police officers. California is one of those states with strict laws on recording private conversations. Like it or not, that’s the law Hochman swore to uphold. Officer Daniel Flores snuck around, taping other cops without their consent, all in the name of “whistleblowing” on unsavory language and jokes. While the liberal mayor wrings her hands and demands to call this “heroic,” all she’s doing is turning a blind eye to the law. If the rulebook can be rewritten anytime feelings get hurt or the mob demands it, then why bother having one at all?
Liberals love to preach about equality and “accountability”—that is, until one of their pet causes rears its ugly head. Suddenly, secret recordings and illegal tactics are celebrated because the establishment wants to score woke points. The truth: nasty language, as ugly as it is, isn’t a crime. Betraying your badge and undermining your brothers in blue? That’s a real problem. The job of a DA is to defend the law, not bend over backwards for the most outrage-prone activists in the room.
What’s really going on here is another classic case of the left attacking any effort at restoring order for everyday Americans. The same crowd that cheered Gascón for throwing police under the bus is now crying foul because Hochman is—gasp—actually holding an officer accountable to the *same* laws imposed on the public. It’s not about justice or rights. It’s about protecting their own narrative at all costs, even if it means celebrating backstabbing inside the ranks. If cops start recording each other in secret, what next? Should anyone trust their colleagues at all? That’s a recipe for chaos, just the way the left likes it.
Does Hochman agree with every policy President Trump ever pushed? No. Does he occasionally show up at liberal events? Sure. But here’s the bottom line: he’s tossed out the anti-police policies that made Los Angeles the laughingstock of the nation, restored the death penalty option, and pushed hard for real reforms that protect citizens, not criminals. Hochman is the adult in the room, doing what needs to be done—even if it makes some nervous. After years of leftist incompetence, isn’t that exactly what Los Angeles, and America, desperately needs?
So, while progressives and their allies try to paint this DA as anti-cop, the real question every conservative should ask is this: Would you rather have a DA who actually enforces the law, or another leftist puppet who lets criminals—and “whistleblowers”—run wild? Maybe it’s time the left remembered: No one is above the law. Not even their favorite “heroes” when they break it.
