Years of woke policies—scrapping standardized tests and letting anyone in the door as long as they checked the right diversity boxes—have caved in. Now the very people who pushed these ideas are facing reality. Turns out, when you throw away academic standards, students can’t keep up.

Letting politics dictate who gets into college has backfired. Liberal administrators eliminated test requirements, saying it was for “equity.” What they delivered instead was an embarrassment. Now professors are admitting, behind closed doors, that their new freshman class struggles with basic math. We’re talking middle school-level stuff. These kids might know all the right buzzwords for protest posters, but they can’t solve simple equations. That’s a recipe for disaster—especially when taxpayers are footing the bill.

The left always pretends that high standards are “unfair” or “racist.” But look who suffers most when colleges drop them. Students end up overwhelmed, drowning in remedial work, and dropping out. Could it be any clearer that “diversity hires” and social engineering don’t create real excellence? America’s top schools used to be the envy of the world. Now they’re turning into training grounds for mediocrity, thanks to radical leftists who think virtue-signaling matters more than brains or hard work.

So here’s the hard truth California’s ivory towers are finally starting to admit: academic standards matter. Maybe if the “experts” in charge had been less obsessed with woke ideology and more focused on actual education, students wouldn’t be failing at basic math.
