New York City’s left-wing politicians must really think they know it all. Their latest “masterpiece”? A so-called “Delivery Protection” scheme dreamed up by City Council and the usual crowd of activists. They claim it’s about helping gig workers. Don’t fall for it. This is just another case of clueless bureaucrats thinking they’re smarter than the very businesses that keep this chaotic city running.
Most of these council members have never even held a real job in the private sector. If any of them ever spent a single hour hustling for a tip, dealing with a boss, or trying to balance a company budget, maybe they’d understand how the real world works. But no, they prefer to sit in their echo chamber, slapping regulations on businesses left and right, as if government always knows best. It’s laughable—and dangerous.
This “delivery protection” mess is classic liberal thinking: create new rules that punish the people who are actually providing jobs, while pretending to help the “little guy.” Instead of making things easier for workers and owners, the council is piling on more mandates, paperwork, and headaches. All this does is drive up costs and end up hurting customers, workers, and small restaurants trying to survive in a city already suffocating under mountains of red tape.
Let’s not kid ourselves—these politicians aren’t standing up for the average New Yorker. They’re pandering to anti-business activists and globalist interests who think America should look more like some failing socialist utopia. This is the stuff that sends jobs running out of the city, puts mom-and-pop shops under, and scares away the entrepreneurs we desperately need. Every time the council tightens its grip, another piece of the city’s future slips away.
Of course, the council will pat itself on the back, acting like heroes for “protecting” delivery workers. The reality? They just made life harder for everyone except for themselves. How long are voters going to let these out-of-touch liberals experiment on our economy, as if New York was their personal playground? Maybe it’s time for City Hall to step aside and let real Americans get back to work.
