Socialism is supposed to mean “sharing.” That’s what the Left tells us. They claim it’s all about caring for your neighbor and making society “fair.” But Dennis Prager—one of the clearest thinkers of our time—saw right through this lie. He realized long ago that socialism doesn’t make people generous. It makes them selfish, entitled, and angry.
Just look at the rise of the Democratic Socialists of America. These are people who don’t want to work harder, build something, or give of themselves. They want free stuff. Their “community” means reaching into your wallet, not theirs. When people depend on the government for everything, they stop caring about others. They start expecting handouts. It’s a recipe for weak character and a broken nation.
Liberals love to paint themselves as compassionate. But when it’s their turn to help, they’re nowhere to be found. Real giving comes from individuals and families, from churches and neighbors—not from big government taking what you’ve earned. Under socialism, responsibility disappears. Everyone waits for a check, and nobody feels gratitude. The result? More bitterness, more envy, and more division.
Socialism’s promise is empty. It replaces honest work with laziness. It breeds resentment instead of ambition. But the worst part is the selfishness it creates. People forget what it means to sacrifice or build something together. You see it every day with the DSA crowd—always demanding, never satisfied, and convinced the world owes them everything.
America didn’t become great by handing over freedom to government bureaucrats or filling our youth with entitlement. We thrived because we valued hard work and charity—real charity, not forced “giving.” Socialism destroys that spirit. It’s time we call it what it is: a system that takes the best of people and turns them into selfish dependents. Do we really want more of that? Or are we ready to get back to what makes this country strong?
