It’s no secret that the left never misses a chance to lecture Americans about “diplomacy”—as if, for eight long years, they didn’t totally botch the job on the world stage. Now, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stepping up and showing real American leadership in foreign affairs, what does the old Obama crowd do? They sneer. They dismiss. And they act like only their precious Ivy League club knows how to travel the globe.
This time, Ivo Daalder, one of Obama’s so-called “ambassadors,” tried to brush off Rubio’s foreign travel like it was some unnecessary, childish stunt. Of course he did. Liberals like Daalder want America to stay quiet, keep her head down, and play nice with bureaucrats in Brussels. They see bold American action as some kind of threat to their fragile egos and their beloved globalist agendas. When a conservative finally dares to take center stage, their first instinct is mockery.
But Rubio’s Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, wasn’t about to let that smugness slide. He fired right back, calling out the arrogance and condescension that’s become all too common from the Obama era leftovers. Landau knows what the rest of us know—America needs a Secretary of State who doesn’t just hop from one fancy cocktail party to another, but actually fights for American interests every single day.
Isn’t it something? When it was John Kerry or Hillary Clinton racking up frequent flyer miles on the taxpayer dime, the left cheered. But let a Republican like Rubio represent our country abroad—standing strong, eye-to-eye with world leaders—and suddenly it’s a problem. That’s liberal hypocrisy at its finest. The old guard is terrified of someone who puts America First, because they know it exposes their years of weakness and inaction.
Rubio is doing what the job demands—defending American values, building real alliances, and making it clear that the United States is back in charge. If that makes arrogant Obama diplomats uncomfortable, maybe it’s finally time for them to step out of the way. Why should we ever let the failed foreign policy of the past shape the future? Americans deserve better than the usual lectures. Isn’t it time we stopped apologizing for leading the world?
