Hollywood elites are turning LA Halloween into a wild spectacle and regular families are losing out

It’s that time of year again in Los Angeles—the so-called “City of Angels”—where elites in their gated mansions are turning Halloween into some twisted extravaganza. Only in LA could trick-or-treating end up looking like you stumbled onto a Hollywood horror set. Why? Because their neighborhoods are packed with the very folks who dream up the gore and chaos for blockbuster movies. You don’t have your average jack-o’-lanterns on the porch out here. No, you get professional-level monsters, blood-soaked lawns, and high-tech jump scares designed by people who get paid way too much to make nightmares real.

This is more than just harmless fun. These over-the-top displays aren’t for the community, they’re for the Instagram posts—the latest “look at me” moment from a crowd that loves nothing more than fawning over their own creativity. Of course, it’s always the wealthy liberal crowd showing off just how “unique” and “edgy” they can be. Sure, they champion climate change and pretend to care about sustainability, but once October hits, those energy-sucking smoke machines and miles of plastic props pop up faster than a Hollywood reboot. Hypocrisy is the real monster here.

Let’s not forget the bigger problem: It takes a certain privilege to turn Halloween into a personal film set. While real American families scrape together money to buy a bag of candy, these folks drop thousands of dollars on animatronics and custom themes. It’s nothing but a Halloween arms race—who can outspend their neighbor, who can make the news with the most disturbing “haunted house” effect? Ordinary kids hardly stand a chance. Gone are the days of homemade costumes and simple, fun scares. Now, if you aren’t using professional-grade FX, you might as well not bother.

This is Hollywood’s sickness spreading into the suburbs—glorifying gore, rewarding excess, and using children’s holidays as some weird competitive sport. It reflects a city (and a political class) that loves to worship fantasy while ignoring real problems. Crime, homelessness, failing schools? Who cares, as long as the Halloween spectacle gets likes on social media. If only these LA liberals put half as much effort into actual solutions for their communities as they do into scaring children for sport.

Halloween is supposed to be about kids, fun, and maybe a good scare from an old bedsheet ghost. Instead, the LA elite have hijacked it, turning a great American tradition into another vanity project. Is anyone surprised? In their world, it’s all about tricking regular folks and treating themselves. What’s next—a red carpet for trick-or-treaters?
