When Virginians go to the polls this fall, they face a decision that’s bigger than just changing a few words in the state constitution. It’s a question about the very heart of marriage, family, and the role of government in American lives. Amendment 2 is being sold as a harmless cleanup—just repealing some “outdated” language about marriage being between a man and a woman. But let’s not sugarcoat what this really is: It’s a calculated push by radical leftists to force their definition of marriage onto every Virginian, now and forever.
For over 200 years, marriage in America has always meant what common sense and human history show: a union of one man and one woman. That’s not “discrimination.” That’s biology, tradition, and civilization’s backbone. This isn’t some weird relic—every known society, until a few years ago, understood that men and women come together for a reason: procreation, raising children, and building stable families. Now, woke activists and their globalist enablers want voters to pretend none of that ever mattered. They want to write their agenda into law so tightly that if the Supreme Court ever corrects its mistake in the infamous Obergefell ruling, Virginia would still be handcuffed.
Let’s be clear: There is nothing “vestigial” about a marriage amendment that tells the world what Virginians believe. The people voted for it. The left only calls it “unenforceable” because unelected judges, not everyday Americans, overrode their voices. If liberals believed in democracy, they’d respect the will of the people—instead, they run to activist courts any time they lose at the ballot box. It’s the same arrogant play we saw with abortion and felon voting, all on this fall’s ballot. Why bother with elections if elites will dictate how we live?
The left loves to play the guilt-by-association game, always eager to compare traditional marriage supporters to bigots from the past. But there’s never been a time when race, unlike sex, was at the core of what marriage means. No honest historian would equate male-and-female marriage to Jim Crow or Nazi laws. Only a progressive desperate to scare voters into submission would sink that low.
What Amendment 2 is really about is cutting any remaining ties between marriage and making a family. It turns marriage into whatever anyone says it is—nothing essential, just a personal hobby the government must bless. Does America’s future really look brighter with plummeting birth rates, kids without stable homes, and lawmakers unable to fix broken policies because some judge’s pen tied their hands? That’s not how strong nations are built. It’s how they collapse.
Real Virginians still believe in marriage, family, and the basic truths that built this country. Maybe the coastal elites and university bureaucrats want to wish those truths away—but that doesn’t change reality. A “no” vote on Amendment 2 is a vote for marriage, for sanity, and for the right of the people, not out-of-touch judges, to decide what kind of society they want their children to inherit. Will Virginians stand up, or will they let the left rewrite history again?
