There they go again. New York City’s leftist leaders, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin, have decided they’re the saviors of horses. Their big solution? Shut down the Central Park horse-carriage industry—one of the city’s oldest, most beloved traditions. This is classic liberal overreach. When real problems are staring them in the face—crime, filth, illegal immigration—they choose to attack carriages instead.
These horse-drawn rides aren’t just pretty sightseeing trips. They’re jobs, real blue-collar work, handed down through generations. Families depend on these paychecks. But the woke elites in government couldn’t care less. They’d rather cave to radical animal-rights activists funded by globalist megadonors than help everyday New Yorkers put food on the table.
City Hall claims this is about “animal welfare.” What a joke. The horses are cared for better than most residents in the city shelters. The left wants everyone to forget about lawlessness on the subways or stores ransacked by shoplifters. Suddenly, saving carriage horses is more important than keeping citizens safe. It’s lazy, virtue-signaling PR—nothing more.
Let’s get real. The carriage industry is one of the few old-school, all-American businesses left in Manhattan. Tourists love them. Locals are proud of them. But that’s not enough for New York’s progressive politicians. They want to erase anything that reminds them of America’s history, values, or grit. Maybe next, they’ll ban pizza ovens, Broadway, or Christmas trees—because someone on Twitter gets offended.
If these clueless leaders spent half as much time tackling real issues as they do banning horses, New York might actually start to recover. But as usual, liberal officials can’t fix the mess they created. So they distract the public, chasing headlines instead of real solutions. Is there anything left that the woke mob won’t try to destroy?
