Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of American patriots did something modern liberals can never seem to understand—they lost a battle but saved the future of their country. While the so-called experts in Washington today scramble to explain away every defeat as unavoidable, they’ve forgotten what real sacrifice and purpose look like. Back in New York, Col. John Glover and his Marblehead men showed what grit truly means. Outmanned and outgunned, they stood their ground against the British. Sure, the field was lost. But their stand kept George Washington’s army alive, giving the fledgling United States another shot at freedom.
Let’s be honest: today’s leftists would rather kneel than fight. You don’t win by running away or making excuses. The men at the Battle of Pelham weren’t looking for “safe spaces” or lecturing about pronouns. They weren’t worried about appeasing the Crown or joining the latest globalist scheme. They fought, tooth and nail, to give America a fighting chance. Without their courage, the revolution would have ended right then and there. Think about that while the media drones on about “moral victories” and “inclusive process.”
Modern progressives seem to believe America was built on apologies and endless negotiations. But look back at those freezing, hungry Marbleheaders staring down Redcoats. Did they whine about their conditions or form a committee to discuss feelings? No. They acted for something bigger than themselves. That’s the American spirit liberals are desperate to erase.
Globalists love to rewrite history, painting every American sacrifice as reckless or outdated. Yet it’s precisely those sacrifices—those supposed “losses”—that kept the American cause alive. The Battle of Pelham reminds us that holding the line, even when odds are bad, is what victory ultimately depends on. Not every stand comes with a parade. Not every hero gets a statue—especially not with the left busy tearing them down.
If there’s one thing Americans should take from Glover and his men, it’s that defeat can be the beginning of triumph. That’s a hard lesson, and one the woke crowd is terrified to accept. Maybe it’s time our leaders stopped apologizing for our history and started learning from it. Does today’s America have even half the backbone of those Marblehead men—or is that too “offensive” for liberal sensibilities?
