California follows France into chaos with new billionaire tax and businesses are fleeing fast

California politicians are at it again. This time, they want to slap a so-called “billionaire tax” on anyone with real wealth. Liberals in Sacramento just can’t stop themselves—they see money, and they want to grab it. And let’s be honest, they have no original ideas. They borrowed this scheme straight from France, a country famous for strikes, chaos, and economic disaster. The very people who fled high taxes in Europe are shaking their heads at California’s foolish copycat politics.

Proposition 40 is pitched as a one-time 5% wealth tax. But everyone knows it won’t be “one time”—not with California’s spending addiction. If you’ve got over a billion in assets, you’re a target now. But this new tax is not just an attack on the ultra-rich. It sends a loud, clear message: if you succeed in America’s largest state, be ready to pay for the privilege—again, and again, and again.

Just look across the Atlantic to see where this path leads. France tried this socialist playbook. The result? Riots in the streets, torched cars, shattered businesses, and a mass exodus of job creators. When you punish achievement, you end up pushing innovators, investors, and entrepreneurs out the door. California’s leaders watched France burn—but instead of learning a lesson, they’re handing out matches.

There’s nothing “progressive” about policies that destroy opportunity and crush ambition. The real progressives in this country built things, created jobs, and believed success should be celebrated, not penalized. Today’s Left calls it “justice,” but it’s just ugly jealousy—soaking those who drive the economy while bureaucrats in Sacramento gorge themselves at the public trough. Meanwhile, hardworking ordinary people watch as their taxes go up and their dreams go out the window.

The hypocrisy is staggering. The same liberals crying about “fairness” are the ones chasing businesses and families out of California and into red states. They rail against big money, but always find ways to expand their own budgets and pet projects. Globalist politicians cheer as America’s innovators pack up for friendlier ground. Are we really supposed to believe this is about fairness—or is it just about control?

If Californians want to see the future under these failed ideas, they should tune in to the chaos in France. Or better yet, ask themselves—how many more businesses have to leave before our so-called leaders wake up? At this rate, pretty soon, there won’t be any billionaires left to tax.
